Public Reading: Dr. King's Breaking the Silence

An Intersectional Reading of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speech, “Beyond Vietnam: a Time to Break the Silence,” at Riverside Church, New York, April 4, 1967. This landmark speech condemned US militarism, racism and poverty, and represented a significant expansion of his thinking on the challenges our nation faced.

Local community leaders and activists will read Dr. King’s speech on the steps of Cleveland City Hall, Monday April 4, 2022 at 5:00 PM.

The National event at 7:00 PM will feature a pre-recorded group reading of the speech followed by a live panel discussion.

In 2021, Northeast Ohio organized a virtual and intersectional reading to commemorate Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s “Breaking the Silence” speech of April 4, 1967 – view here. This year we’ll meet in person!!
